Legal notice

Intellectual and industrial property rights regarding names and trademarks

  • All the information hosted on the "platma" platform, as well as its graphic design, texts, images, sounds and all other works is the intellectual property of the World Tourism Organization.
  • Personal use of the content is authorized, but all commercial use is prohibited. It is not permitted to modify the institutional website or its content.
  • Generally speaking, all user-generated content in platma is protected under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 license, and therefore, any reference to a user’s original text or work must be accompanied by an attribution of its source and its original author, and any commercial use of content taken from platma is illegal.
  • Documents attached to the private groups of platma are, for all intents and purposes, copyrighted works with all rights reserved, as they are considered to be private and confidential content that is being used for a specific project.
  • There are also various documents and content that are under copyright whose reproduction or use, except for scientific dissemination or educational purposes, is illegal.
  • The World Tourism Organization, as part of the United Nations, is not subject to laws or legal regulations of any specific country, and has as its legal framework the general principles of International Law.
  • The name, emblem and distinctive marks or symbols of the Organization are protected under the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property. Any use of the name, emblem or distinctive marks of the UNWTO without express authorization is illegal.

Validity of documents

  • Only the texts published on the “platma” platform in digital and printed form are considered authentic. Reproductions of documents and content of the institutional website shall be merely informative in nature.
  • The administrative team of platma declines any liability deriving from the non-originality of documents submitted by users, as well as from potential violations of the rules under the Creative Commons license. Nevertheless, in the event that such cases are detected, the administrative team shall have the authority to eliminate such content from the platform.
  • Documents shared in private working groups shall be under copyright with all rights reserved, as they constitute confidential information for the official members of the closed group, and consequently, the transmission of such information outside of the group could be considered a breach of the confidentiality of documents.

Offensive, discriminatory or inappropriate content

  • platma’s rules call for professional, positive and collaborative behaviour, in an appropriate communication environment.
  • All content, comments or external references of an offensive, discriminatory or morally inappropriate nature may be eliminated from platma by the platform’s administrative team.
  • Likewise, users who persist in this type of practices may be blocked, as they are in violation of the decalogue of rules for users.


Waiver of liability

  • In cases where the “platma” website contains links to web pages or sites owned by others, the World Tourism Organization declines all liability relative to their content or the services provided through them.
  • The World Tourism Organization shall not be liable for any faults in communication, deadlines or versions produced by telecommunication services or by any other technical services rendered by third parties or from external servers.
  • The World Tourism Organization does not guarantee that the website and the server are virus-free and shall not be held liable for damages caused by accessing the website or by the impossibility of doing so.
  • Cookies or other means of analogous nature may in no case be used to store information that allows the identification of the physical person using the website and private data shall be strictly protected to ensure that platma contact information is not used for purposes other than direct communication regarding matters dealt with in platma, exclusively.

Links to platma in other websites

  • In the case of websites not owned by the World Tourism Organization that contain links to pages of “platma”, prior authorization for linking shall be required and the following requirements must be met:
  • The link must contain an indication of the source (“platma” or other identifiers of the unit).
  • The effect of clicking on the “link button” must be communication with the “platma” website and not the insertion of the contents of our website in the page.
  • The intellectual and industrial property rights of the World Tourism Organization must be respected, and the logos, search engines, etc. owned by the World Tourism Organization may not be included on the page.
  • In the event of failure to comply with these conditions, or on other grounds if deemed appropriate, authorization to use “platma” may be revoked.


Creating groups

  • All users of platma, except guest users, have the option of creating a group in platma. The creator of the group shall be responsible for supervising the content and texts attached to the group of which he/she is the creator, and must commit to dynamizing and updating the group he/she created.
  • Although group creation is an open option, it is best to request the creation of a group from the platma administrative team, with the aim of maintaining a useful structure of the content in platma.
  • Groups that do not show any activity for 3 months after their creation may be eliminated by the platma administrative team.
  • Specific groups with geographic or regional segmentation may not be created, as platma is a cross-cutting platform of common interests.
  • Groups deriving from the regional programmes or UNWTO initiatives shall be of a “closed” nature and their content shall be under copyright.


Guest users

Guest users shall be subject to the following rules:

  • When participating in the working group to which they have been invited they shall observe the decalogue of rules of platma in every regard, and respect the authorship of content under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 license, documents with copyright all rights reserved, and the privacy of the information contained in the closed groups of platma. Breach of the privacy rules may constitute grounds for banning the user.
  • The duration of guest permissions is 6 months, after which an affiliate member may request the extension of the permission for an additional six months.
  • If the closed group to which a user outside of the UNWTO Affiliate Members has been invited is eliminated, the guest user’s access to the platform is automatically removed.
  • Guest users may access the open content on platma and may be invited to more than one working group, but shall not have the option of creating a group in platma.

The World Tourism Organization reserves its exclusive right in its sole discretion to alter, limit or discontinue the Site or any Materials in any respect. The World Tourism Organization shall have no obligation to take the needs of any User into consideration in connection therewith.

The World Tourism Organization reserves the right to deny in its sole discretion any user access to this Site or any portion thereof without notice.

No waiver by the World Tourism Organization of any provision of these Terms and Conditions shall be binding except as set forth in writing and signed by its duly authorized representative.
